Standards
Standards are critical to the adoption and function of sensors and the communication systems. By agreeing to a common language by which devices exchange information, each one can create more value by leveraging the others. Instead of having to create a complete solution end-to-end all at once, innovators can concentrate on a specific problem and create a specific solution, or improve existing ones, without disruption throughout the system. When contemplating a complex system involving many sensor technologies, there is really no other way to construct it or improve it piece by piece.
Gridata regularly helps design standards in the industry. Our current work includes:
- Zigbee Smart Energy Profile 2.0, Distributed Generation
- ASHRAE 201, Building Information Exchange
- OpenADR, Demand Response
- SGIP, Smart Grid Interoperability Panel, Observing Member
- SGIP Governing Board Member
- SunSpec Alliance, solar generation system communication protocols
Past work included:
- OpenHAN, Home Area Network definitions
- OpenADE, Automated Data Exchange with utilities to third parties
